AC and furnace tune-ups in Los Angeles

One visit, no plan to sign. The outdoor coil is rinsed and the drain line flushed. You keep the record of every reading.

A tune-up is for a system that still runs. Dust and leaves pack the fins of an outdoor coil, and the unit then works harder to shed the heat it pulls out of the house. A drain line slowly grows slime until the water has nowhere to go. From inside, neither one shows until the cooling stops or water comes through a ceiling.

What the visit covers

  • The outdoor coil rinsed. Clean fins let the unit give off heat more easily, so the compressor usually runs less for the same cooling.
  • The drain line flushed. It carries off the water the indoor coil pulls out of the air. When it clogs, water fills the pan under the coil, and on an attic system that pan sits over a ceiling.
  • Every reading written down. The system is tested and each reading goes on the record, from refrigerant pressures to the amp draw on each motor.

On a furnace or a mini-split the visit works the same way: the system is tested and every reading is written down. Tell us what you have when you call, and on a mini-split, how many heads it has.

Attics and roofs

Attic furnaces and coils bake all summer in the Valley. We check the drain pan and the duct joints while we're up there. On a flat-roof duplex the whole system sits in one cabinet on the roof. Tell us how the roof is reached and we bring the right ladder.

If the tune-up finds a fault

It goes on the record with the reading that showed it, and the repair price beside it. Nothing starts until you say yes. A fault found on a tune-up does not have to be fixed that day.

What the price depends on

A tune-up is priced on its own, not as a repair visit. Ask for the price when you call. You have it before anything is booked. It depends on:

  • How many systems the house has
  • Cooling only, or the furnace as well
  • Where the equipment sits: a side yard, an attic, a closet or the roof
  • On a mini-split, how many heads it has

What you get

The record, the same as after a repair. It lists every reading and what we checked and found sound, with anything we couldn't reach and why. Keep it for next time. A reading that drifts from one tune-up to the next is often the first sign of a part on its way out.

Questions about tune-ups

Do I have to sign up for anything?

No. A tune-up is one visit, booked when you want it. There is no plan to sign and nothing renews.

How often should a system be tuned up?

Once a year suits most systems. An attic system in the Valley, or a unit under a tree that drops leaves on it, can need it sooner.

Why rinse the coil if the AC still cools?

A packed coil makes the compressor run longer for the same cooling. That usually raises the power bill before anyone feels a difference in the house.

What if my system is already acting up?

Then book a repair visit, not a tune-up. The tests find the fault first. See AC repair or heating repair.
